Each year, there are an estimated 1.7 to 3.8 million traumatic brain injuries in the United States, and more than 20 percent arise due to sports and recreational activities. More than 300,000 head injuries result from football, with ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, and soccer, also seeing a high incidence of concussion. In fact, the Center for Disease Control estimates that 5 to 10% of athletes will experience a concussion in any given sports season.

In this week’s podcast, Dr. Cole talks to Dr. Elizabeth Pieroth, a board-certified Clinical Neuropsychologist and the Director of the Concussion Program at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush about the latest research and information on concussions.
