I came to Dr. Cole in desperate need of pain relief and better mobility of my knee due to a sports injury 10 years ago that left me without a lateral meniscus and after years of bone on bone, my cartilage wore off and left me with a 2cm hole. At the age of 25, I could barely walk a mile without my knee swelling, and causing me pain for the next few days afterward. I couldn’t walk up or down stairs without pain and my knee giving out, and sports were out of the question. I had trouble sleeping through the night due to osteoarthritis. We talked about my previous surgeries and other measures I had taken to relieve pain.
He asked me what my ultimate goal was by coming to see him. And I told him to be able to play an active role in my childrens’ lives. And he told me the type of operation he recommended in order for that to happen. That he could make it happen! He made sure to go over how serious the surgery was, but also how practical and efficient he is in it. To put my mind at ease and for me to better understand it from all sides. I had a mensical allograft transplantation, osteochondral allograft transplantation and a distal femoral osteotomy, done in one surgery. With how invasive, and physically altering the surgery was, I’ve had absolutely minimal pain.

Even with physical therapy 3x a week. I’ve had more problems with swelling and stiffness than any pain. I’m still blow away with how amazing my incisions look, the small amount of pain I was in, how short of a time I was in pain. By week 3 I was taking just Tylenol 2x a day. I’m now 7 weeks post op and only take it at night to help with the stiffness. When I came to Dr. Cole, I was at my last resort and had honestly given up hope that I’d live a life with barely any pain. And my quality of life, even still on crutches is better than it was before I walked into his office for the first time.
I wish I would have explored my options sooner and reached out to him 5 years ago. I’m really looking forward to getting back on my feet; and being able to do everyday things without being in pain, every day.
